My 2 PP'S for 2 days stayed in their hut together and refused to come out despite some yummy leaves for hermit crab patch. At some point I believe they came out to eat some mineral supplement because the shell was in a different position but everything else was untouched. Then last night during our southern "snow storm" I noticed they both came out and were exploring some new monopi wood I put in and eating tye leaves and some shrimp. I didn't sleep much because of the threat of power loss. Why did they have the 2 day period of not doing much? The temp stayed at 79 and the humidity was in the upper 80's. I know they love to make us worry!

Why do they go awhile without being active?

Sounds pretty normal to me. There are going to be times when, despite perfect conditions, they're less active. If you're looking for a pet that's constantly active, hermit crabs are not it.
Just in case, double check that your hygrometer is reading correctly. In my experience, they can crap out from time to time.
