Awkward Crab

Post by marandashermies » Mon Feb 22, 2016 1:55 pm

OK, so I have this micro guy who is in this apple murex shell that is way to large for him. When you pick up the shell and look into it, you don't see any sign of a crab. It looks and feels completely empty. I actually picked it up a few weeks ago and put it back in the shell shop, excited that he moved out of it, only to realize this week it was back on the ground in different spots every day. But he can hardly walk in the thing! He kind of circles around in a 6 inch radius, and I think its just because walking is just too hard for him. I have TONS of shells that would fit him and when I see him, I always surround him with them. So he has access to them, and they are different sizes and types of shells, but he wont budge. I guess I should be happy he is in a shell and not streaking!

He does look so freakin adorable though when he is standing there with the ends of his eye stalks popping out.: Everything else is hidden by the shell. I am pretty sure its just this fella and another little micro up in the 55g right now, so luckily no one is picking on him or trampling him. He found a little pre-dug hole from one of my medium's and is hanging out in there sitting on a piece of crab cookie, munchin on that.
He is just a stubborn guy and must really like that shell. He is also VERY shy and when he sees me, he tucks right in. Most of my others are used to me and just stare back at me like "what, what are you lookin at now? Yah I am upside down, so what? Go back to the T.V and let me climb in peace lady". At least that's what I imagine they are thinking :D

Has anyone ever had this situation happen? Did your crab eventually move out of the shell? Should I do anything else for him? I really fell like I have exhausted my options, but any insight or suggestions are welcomed! I will attempt to get a pic of him, but he doesn't make it easy!

There is really nothing else that you could do (besides from giving him plenty of options)
Different crabs like different shells. One of my weird crabs doesn't like the turbo shells. :crabblush:

I have one small PP like that... every night she'll go shell shopping - starting with jumbo sized shells and then large sized shells and so on - it's hilarious to watch her

My large guy, Big Enzo, does just the opposite: he loooves small shells and always starts in that shell shop before reluctantly heading down to the shop with ones in his size!
PPs are Big Enzo, Charles Paris and Mr Pinch

He looks great in the little apple murex! I have a fella who likes WAY too big shells-and that seems to be the only criteria. He changes shells almost every day and the shells he chooses are a variety of colors, types, weights-the only thing they have in common is that they are all way too big. He drives me crazy, I tell him: "Those are not for you." But he doesn't listen. :|

haha that's funny! You can just tell its way to heavy for him when he walks. I have never had a crab that was able to tuck so far in a shell that it looked empty inside. Usually you can see some of them at least, but this one, not even an antenna! :dontknow:
