HELP! old crab chased new crab out of its shell!!!

Post by Cate1129 » Fri Feb 26, 2016 10:21 pm

So I have a crab I've had almost 2 years, just added a new crab a couple weeks ago. This morning I found that the old crab was digging into the hole where the new crab has been hiding for a few days. I took her out several times but she kept going back! I had to leave for the day and I come home to find the new crab naked out of fits hole and the olde one in the hole with the new crabs shell (not in it but just with it) I added a few larger shells this evening but the old crab doesn't seem interested in them. The new and now naked crab is now hiding in a corner. I've put her old shell and a couple others near where she's hiding to try to get her back in a shell! Anything else I can do to help the situation? I'm quite concerned about the naked crab!

**UPDATE** The new crab returned to her shell. She hasn't dug back under and I am keeping an eye on the older one. The older one hasn't picked a new shell out either. But I am going to give them time and space and hopefully they work it out!

I don't know much about this, but I would definitely recommend you isolate the previously shell-less one for now, with lots of shells, molting food, and correct sub deapth. Hopefully someone else will see and reply to this, this really should be under "emergency", hopefully they'll move it.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but hopefully this will bump the thread up a bit.

How deep is your substrate? Also, how many available shells are there?

Well, everyone is okay now. The shell stealer FINALLY found a shell that was acceptable to her today. The one who had the shell taken has gotten her shell back and is underground. No more issues now. I think she just couldn't find a shell she liked in what I had. I added new ones and she finally chose one today!
