I snapped some pictures because I knew that if I liked the shell, Luis would discard it in under ten minutes, because crabs are perverse that way.

Sure enough, she's spotting a boring brown number now.

My smallest crab, Aster, just executed a totally bizarre kamikaze move. She made her way to the edge of the second level shell shop. She looked down at Luis, who was directly below for a moment... and stepped without any hesitation over the edge, hitting Luis. She then righted herself, wandered over to a Chia sprout, pulled it up, and walked away.
I feel like it was a reprisal of sorts - Luis occasionally sits atop her in the tree, tapping her shell with one leg. Luis is in no way small enough to use the shell, and Aster stays tucked up inside, so I don't worry about it.
But this seemed so much to have the character of a malicious action, I was kind of stunned by it. And she just walked away - no big deal.
