Thanks again, everyone! So much helpful and fascinating info!! I'm going to check out the sources of animal protein y'all mentioned. And how cool to know that PPs favor magpie shells in their natural habitat. Glad I've got a couple and I'll look for more--a fun quest!

I gave H a twig with some maple leaves from my yard, plus a hunk of bark off the same tree. He loves the bark! He's been hanging out on it for a couple of days--my son calls it his boat. :) Also examining all the extra shells--I went ahead and gave him all the big ones I have. Definitely need a bigger tank. I'm going to ask my neighborhood again for hermies no longer wanted and see if Soilent Gringa and I live close enough for easy and safe transport.
