our crabs chirp quite frequently.. in most cases it's a dominance thing, while on top of one another.. like saying i'm your daddy kind of thing without any real sort of harmful activity.. also they will just chirp for no real reason that I can see.. maybe just wanting to talk/communicate.. Sketch who's an E has chirped when I tried to pick him up off my sweatshirt I was wearing.. as to tell me to leave him be.. he wanted to stay om my hoody.. I also have seen them move back & forth in there shell while making chirps and believe that these sounds are simply made by rubbing a part of there body on the inside of the shell.. and i'll never forget the 1st time I heard this weird but also very neat sound come from one of our lil guys

I hear my guys chirp once in awhile. They especially do it when i have to take them out of the tank and put them in someting else while i do some housework in there. Usually what causes it is one of them climbing on another to try and get out. I'm assuming here it is the crab underneath that is upset...and chirps.

Awhile back i had Purple Sweetie Pie out and he was climbing up my arm. He climbed up my shoulder and decided to lower himself down on the strap of my tank top. It seemed kinda risky to me so i tried to get him off. I barely heard the chirp, but i FELT it when i grabbed his shell.

On another occasion, ALL of them were buried and i heard a chirping sound that was loud enough for me to hear it in another room. I couldn't believe how loud it was. Since i couldn't see them, i have no idea why the chirping...but it was pretty LOUD so i am guessing someone was pretty annoyed!

Strange.

:D I've heard chirping from several of mine during random times. I have a Straw who just loves to talk frequently...it sounds more like a frog or cricket, but very low. The other Straw was missing every time so I'm theorizing that it's a communication, not a distress call. I've also heard another appear to be muttering to himself for no apparent reason. Apple was chirping excitedly once when Bud climbed on top of her & Level chirped quite a bit once when I was feeding her. :( These 2 I consider distress calls. It's quite an interesting sound & I do so love to listen to them. 8) I can just barely hear it when I'm watching TV & always put the mute on & try to discover the source of the sound.
Funny, all the times that Vise has attacked Hammer, there's been NO sounds whatsoever! :?
I march to the beat of a different drummer...did I mention my husband is a drummer!
