I've had very few problems with my Es molting - one or two deaths. Never had a deformity *knock on wood* though. I use Doc Fishwell's Aquarium salt for tropical fish. It's made from real ocean water. I don't know if they make it anymore, but my crabs seem to love it.
I find my Es are extremely stubborn when it comes to changing shells. Even when they need to they will still be picky and not change if they can't find something they like.
They are picky about their food. I've never owned any other breed then Es, so I can't really make a comparison, but they like what they like and pout (literally one of my crabs pouts when he doesn't get fresh food, but gets kibble instead) when they don't.
They love to climb. I almost always find my crabs up on the vines, the cave, the lid, wherever they can get that's off the ground.
They don't always fully retract into their shell when they are startled, but that's just a crab by crab kind of thing.
Mine don't fight very often - I've only seen them fight when new ones are placed in the tank. And I've never seen my crabs riding other crabs unless they're new.
So people say Es are tank trashers, and when they start digging, they can be. They also seem to love burying shells they don't deem fit enough for them - I have at least 5 or 6 shells under the substrate at the moment.
They're pretty easy to care for though. Enjoy!

I found one too...right after I had just given all the shells a wash/boil. Ha. He buried it pretty deep-quickly. I was very confused when I found it.Ms. Crabby Patty wrote:It's funny you mentioned buried shells!!! HAHA! I just found one last night and I thought "What's that doing under there?"

This thread was interesting to read...as I just got two new E's last night. My smaller one has not stopped! My larger one was active for awhile...but late yesterday evening and this morning he is in hiding or something. I don't see him.
