The lid is a old aquariam one with the plastic pieces punched out.
My largest doesn't want to escape as much as I think he likes it's a little cooler. He will climb to the top a nudge the lid a crack open. Lol

So, this guy wants to steal away some food, bruce's burgers from hermie's kitchen. He's trying to get it over the side of their food dish. He (I think it's the same one) tried this last week but I digress. He's persistant but not too bright. Like why doesn't he just carry it through that big opening?
https://youtu.be/8VbmTkd6cTA
Then what I didn't record was his 2nd attempt, turning himself almost on his head. He gave up and retreated to the "cocohut". But 2 min later he had a bright idea!
https://youtu.be/tm-1JV_6zg8
He finally takes it through the opening and drops it into a hole in the substrate. But!!
https://youtu.be/D4wfeCvOKec
As you can see a tank mate spotted the manna dropping from heaven and proceeded to abscond with it. The first crab, happy in the knowledge that his prize is waiting for him, decides that's enough work for today and retires to the cocohut for the day to sleep it off. The 2nd crab then climbs into the cocohut to snuggle with his unsuspecting pal. Or...could it be the first guy dropped in for the other one to get??

My crabs took the air stone off the tube and dragged it onto the second level.
I’m noticing now that thy also somehow removed the part of the air stone which connects to the tube
One or hopefully two Clypeatus
Goodbye my little E. See you soon.
Bye Fred. You lasted almost 4 years with me. Hope you're with my E now! See you soon Reeba as well. I can't believe I lost you only after a month.
Crabbing for 4 years!

Calypso is enjoying her dietary upgrade (I recently made some purchases from the Hermit Crab Patch). I just now picked up a little flower petal (from the berry snack mix) and held it out. She got excited right away–I actually dropped it twice because I was nervous I'd get pinched. Finally she gripped it with her smaller claw and right away started munching on it. I've been working on befriending her again, and I think she already understands that Big Hand Monster=fresh food. It was sweet to have her accept a treat from me.
Do you all handle your crabs? I don't usually pick them up unless necessary for cleaning reasons, but I will sometimes let them taste/touch my fingertip while I'm in there messing with the tank.

acorn is super active! he climbed the wall yesterday, LOL. his shell is about the size of a quarter and salsa is a tiny bit bigger. they recently lost their buddy, arrow, but i think arrow intimidated salsa because as soon as he deid, salsa dug down to molt, and acorn finished his molt and returned to the surface. salsa is still molting, but acorn just loves to dig. he will go down, then back up the next day, then down again! he is very freindly and neither have ever pinched me! wish i could include a picture, buthe is underground right now!

I haven't been pinched by mine either. *Knock on wood* They'll reach out their claws to touch my hand but I think it's more curiosity (or looking for a snack) than it is aggression. Mine molted together last time, which was cool. Unfortunately I lost Stitch shortly thereafter... I know in the wild hermit crabs will mass molt to mitigate losses to predators and cannibalism.

today acorn switched shells! he was in his old one for a couple months, (2) so this is really great! i offered a ton of shells of all sizes, but this is the one he decided on. sadly, my computer does not have an active camera, so if i can find a way to upload a picure I will gladly do so.
