wouldnt hur to take hulk out. then wait for your other crab to come out. might be hiding.....

And if once hulk is out your crab comes up, you should maybe lok at keeping him seperate. regardless of if they are social creatures or not, if hes killing crabs then he should be around crabs. easy as that.

no Hulk just came up from her molt right after Rogue came up...so that probably saved her..but I left hulk in while I was one this week and Hulk was out and about when I got back..and no sign of the rest...I did see Plankton Violet and Batman...(smaller ones who are not bothered by Hulk) so I am hoping I get to see the rest soon. I am worries cause I don't know what has gone on while I was gone.

Attacking crab

Post by Guest » Fri Aug 31, 2007 12:51 pm

Hi Hulk. I'm sorry you're going throough all these problems with one of your favorites. I was wondering if you include a source of lipids in his diet on a regualr basis. These include oils, and I think the best oil is Omega 3, which is derived from fish. I was also wondering if you include a source of cellulose in her diet every day, such as oak leaves or oak bark. These may help. Anyway, I wish you a lot of luck.

In my opinion

Post by Dawn » Fri Aug 31, 2007 1:58 pm

It's my opinion that straws are a less dominate hermit crab. I had four at one time and each one was killed by a more agressive species. Two of my favorites, Rose and Bob were killed by a smaller ecuadorian, Buttercup. Rose was buried molting and Buttercup dug her up and stoll her shell. There wasn't any damage that I could see but it was so traumatic for poor Rose that she died. I had several others come to her mini-isolation and say good-bye to her but all were purple pinchers and not the ecuadorian killer...

I keep my Strawberries in their own tank now because they just do better in with their own kind. This isn't the same as anyone else, I'm sure but it's what I do and it seems to work better for me. I've had two molts in that tank (95 gallon plexi tank with primarily sand) since March and no one has tried to dig anyone up...I found someone (Think it was Tom) right next to Flipper as she molted and he never touched her or her exo. When Ragu molted it seemed everyone knew where he was too but no one bothered him. I guess the straws don't try and hide when they molt and it's too easy for the more agressive guys to find them and do their damage.

Now, in Buttercup's defense, she was pre-molt and it was a horrible molt. Her left rear walking leg came out bent nearly 180 degrees up, impossible to climb for her for a month until she molted again. since that second molt, she's been a I am a stupid spammer, ignore me! cat...That was 18 months ago, I think.

thanks for the help.

I do give them red palm oil, cocut oil and fish, crab, shrimp, nuts...fruits, veggies....practically everyday. I do limit the oil to once or twice a week...so I will give it more often to see if that works. the thing with the oils is the straws were the ones eatting it and not Hulk (pp) and the others...now they may have when i wasn't looking. I did see spidergirl in it afew times (pp)

I still can't find Rouge. It has been a week now since my vacation and she was missing when I got back...so that makes two weeks that I haven't seen her and it scares me cause of everything that has happened with these guys lately. I can't dig for them, but I am praying she is ok.

Hulk is ALWAYS out..I am not sure if she is just active or if it is her being dominate and territorial? The smaller rugs and pp's have no problem with Hulk...Hulks has only attacked the MOLTING (or freshly up from a molt) straws~who happen to be Hulks size or larger.

If something happens to Rouge I will not put another straw in with Hulk ever. I plan on taking Hulk out when the straws are molting or ready to come up from the molts.

I buy NarNars food and beauty shells and hermit crab addiction...so they get a good variety and the good natual foods. I have all sorts of foods from fruits and flower, bugs n nuts...wormcastings, bees wax, colorful crabby, staple, blue green, autumn harvets which is leaves...and so much more that I can't even keep track of it.

I have tons of extra shells and lots of space..so I am lost to an explanation...other then agression and bully...I hope Hulk knocks it off. She wasn't doing it because she needed to molt and she doesn't bother the straws before they molt...no atacks or shells stealing..she wait till they are weak from molting.

I just wish they could all get along. I try to do everything right and give the th best..and look what happens. I get so sad when I think of my beautiful straws.

I love the name Rouge...I struggle to find really nice names for the strawberries. My best were Rose and Berry but sadly, those two died. Now I have Flipper and Ragu and Tom(ato) but two more that are not named. I really need to see if they are male or female but I don't want to handle them too much. I'm so afraid to handle them too much. They are pretty special crabs.

What bothers me the most is that they are endangered in Australia so they should be less collected but because they are so brilliant colored they're probably collected more. My five are pretty big guys/girls. Bigger than most of the PP's and ecuadorians that I have. I have two pp's bigger than them. Singer and Ronny. Most of my crabs are named but there are some we weren't sure were going to make it so they didn't get names...I want to name them so I know who I'm talking about...

Sorry to prattle on. I do love my crabs.
