Does anyone else have crabs who fill their hides with dirt? I have a half log in the crabitat that they never go in but just fill with dirt until the edges dont even touch the ground anymore. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this

Yep. They seem to enjoy digging under/near things.

What do you see when you look at this picture? ImageFirst you see Iris and then what appears to be a grape. Nope. It's Aphrodite. She has no fear. Iris doesn't even bother to flip her out. Jockey on the other hand...Image She food blocks him until she is done or simply flips him out. Lol

I have a pic of I believe my Athena refusing to come out of her shell when I first got her and it was a shell just like your big guy is wearing. I captioned the photo as "My favorite rock." I swear we could use them as paper weights. Lol

Found my crab climbing on the mesh screen last night. I'm not sure how he got there. There's no sealant really and he's a medium

Someone needs to kick this guy in the butt so he'll change shells. I'm appalled to have a crab wearing something so hideous. Haha.

Shhhhh...he's sleeping in the moss pit. He's going to be super cranky when I pull him out in a little bit to re-spray it. I may plop him in the shell shop and see what he does.

I love checking this page once and a while to see how everyone's carbs are doing and to see all the fun pictures!

My crabs have been trying to make me go crazy! I have a feeling that just about everyone on HCA has had a situation where their crabs have made them crazy. They make it their job sometimes. But this particular incident is my crabs changing shells! Don't get me wrong, I love when a crab decideds to change shells, but it has gotten out of hand in my tank. Everyone has been switching shells with each other, and throwing me off for telling who is who.

Okay, get ready...
Hendle, one of my new crabs had a green shell on (sorry, I don't know the names of shell types), but switched to a black and white one. Sebastian was wearing a giraffe patterned shell, but switched into Hendel's green shell. Now yesterday someone was in Ollie's old brown shell, I think it was Ollie trying it out one last time, but I'm not certain. Ollie is now back in her white shell that she has been in for a while now. Then today, I found everyone switched back! Hendel is now in his original green shell, and Sebastian is back in her giraffe patterned shell. I am almost certain I know who is who now, judging by their personalities, sizes, and favorite spots in the tank. But who knows, I could have just reached the point of going insane. Thank you crabs for making my head hurt, trying to figure out who is in what shell.

And I forgot to mention, Sebastian also switched into a brown and white shell for about an hour:

And Ollie in her white shell:

I took all these pictures within the last three days...

Sorry for the long post!

I have 30. Lol I soooo feel your pain. Today the E that I rescued in September changed from a turbo (he has been in a turbo for a long time) back into the shell he had on when I picked him up. Someone else went into his old shell but I have no idea whatsoever who because the shell my E (Jockey) went into was in the vast shell shop, meaning the guy in his old shell deposited his in the shop as well. I took a picture the other night of the shop in case Thor changed and I took one tonight. I will try to see if I can tell which is new. I highly doubt I can. I am going to have to dig through it I think but more than likely it was someone in a tapestry turbo and I have 30 of them...all of them are in the tank plus a ton more shells. I am crazy...I keep a log with pics and everything for each crab. It would be so much easier if they made it obvious who changed.

My hermit crabs are lazy, but in the middle of the night they start taping on
the glass, and when I look to see who's doing it they pretend nothing is happening. :x

My 10g tank was replaced by a 20g tall that I decorated, filled with dirt and stuff. I put all the crabs that were topside in the 20g tall. By that point idek who pepper or flower is... Two crabs were molting for a while in the 10g but I decided to dig them up to find that dirt wasn't cave compatible except the like the only 2" I found both of them in. I put Aries (easily recognizable in a tapestry) and Pepper/Flower in the 20g tall except that Pepper/Flower was in Adrian's old shell (calico/Mexican turbo) and the same size as Adrian when I bought him. Had Adrian gone underground and I had mistaken Pepper/Flower for Adrian switching shells into a green turbo? Huh... I didn't know. Anyways, I thought to myself, I have 3 crabs in green turbos but it's fine Kaylee is the biggest Adrian in the middle and Pepper/Flower is the smallest. As long as they don't molt I'll be able to tell them apart!! I still have Turbo in his trusty Apple Murex, Aries in the only green tapestry, and someone in the calico/Mexican turbo... I got this. Then Aries switches into the biggest green turbo in the tank identical to Kaylee's. Oh no! Oh yeah I think Freckles stole a Tigrina and went under, who's freckles you ask? I don't know anymore maybe hidden amongst the green turbo chaos or actually molting. We'll have to see...

I want take the 2-3 I actually do know and separate them from the 20g tall crew and keep them in the big guys tank... Once the big guys stop molting and I can actually put them in their new tank GAH... I love them.
