Congrats on the chirping! I've had my crew since June and have never heard a single chirp. Lots of clanking, no chirping.

I took a break from studying and found a newly molted Wilson! He's still almost white in some areas but he's darkening up. He's come a long ways since I adopted him.

Now, with Lil mama hiding in the background lolImageImage

Well my hermit crab Violet murdered my hermit crab Shelby.
That makes me sad, Shelby is my favorite hermit crab, and now she's dead.

I hope your coping okay... I've lost my favorite, an original named Octavius. It's hard to see old videos and pictures, we all know. Sadly the learning curve has no angle and the journey gets bumpy but that's all a part of crabbing, all for the betterment of our LHC friends in the end, hopefully.
If I remember right, you were having E problems right? If so was Violet one of them or were they already re-homed? Sorry if I'm way off about that though.

Violet is a PP, Shelby was a E. You can see my profile picture of Shelby, she was
so cute.

I think Violet is upset about killing Shelby.
I've been hand feeding Violet because she has refused to do anything since she
killed Shelby.

I miss you!! Lol.

My crabs are boring...nothing new to report. I keep fiddling with the layout of my new 40 gallon, and I think the guys in the 55 are getting jealous. I ordered 2 medium cork rounds from Petco and they sent 2 enormous long ones instead. I don't even know what to do with the 2nd one after cramming one in the 40.
Crabbing since July 2014! 75 gallon with 12 Purple Pinchers.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss! Losing our pets is always hard. No one can replace your favorite crab but I hope your others are bringing you some comfort. :(

Ahh I miss you too! I've been missing so much lately. But I think my crabs are really enjoying their break from me because they only see me during food/water changes here lately. When I do manage to sneak up on them they're all like "OH CRAP SHE'S BACK! RUN! HIDE!" It's pretty hilarious lol.

I'd say I'm surprised to hear you got another tank, but lets be real. One tank just isn't enough for crab enthusiast like you :) and of course the best kind of problem to have is having too many decorations to fit in a tank! I bet your crabs are loving new décor to climb all over!

So hopefully I'll be adding my rolly pollies to my tank here in the next few days. I've been waiting for this week for a while so that I could watch all of the action! I will definitely be posting about it and hopefully some pictures if I can catch them in the big tank. I've been raising these pods for over 4 months so I've got a thriving colony ready for new adventures! Excitement is an understatement right now!!

I went out in my backyard and looked under rocks, logs, and stones. It took a few weeks for me to find them but once I did I found so many of them! Have you seen the care sheet on them?

I've seen the care sheet for pill bugs now. :P
I also looked on YouTube, and found some helpful
videos for starting a colony of them. :D

I'll link some pod threads I've found/been apart of. Maybe they can help you get something started.

My mom saw 2 crabs that were in desperate need of good care and brought them to me. the big guy took offense to me trying to get a picture of him in my palm when he changed out of his painted shell.
Image
Ow!

Image
He's too cute to be angry with though.

He changed 5 times that I know of while in the KK with shells and food. I wanted him out of the painted shell and comfy in a new one before putting him in the big tank. He went in right before I took my kids upstairs for the night. I look forward to peeking at him later. The smaller guy is in the big tank too but he didn't change before I put him in. He seemed stressed so I put him in before a change.
#1 rule of crabbing - crabs are weird.
#2 rule of crabbing - see above

you're right, crabs are the only things that can be so cute. I take that back, these guys have the exception
