OK, so, my son and I have 5 crabs between us. My Maggie has been down, presumably molting, for about a month more or less now. My son's two crabs, Kermit and Speedy have not gone down (and my son has had Kermit since August). This past weekend, my son and I got another crab... he couldn't help it, but he adopted (free) an injured crab in a broken shell. Anyway, we haven't noticed Kermit or Speedy eating in quite a while. We're kind of worried. Especially since Kermit hasn't molted since we got him.

Our substrate is maybe 5 inches now its settled... we're worried about fixing it with Maggie being down. We finally have our heat and humidity problems taken care of. Their holding 80+ degrees/humidity all day.

Has anyone else had issues with crabs not wanting to molt for mysterious reason, and not eating????

Haha, just realized that I forgot to mention my new crabby. His name is Fancy Pants, and he's in a cute little rainbow snail shell (not painted).

You can add substrate even with a molting crab. You wanna add it in small amounts and don't pack it down. Just be gentle when adding it so no caves cave in. I also wonder about my crabs eating. But in the past two days I've caught two of my crabs eating their coco mat and some of the sub. They eat such small amounts it's hard to tell and they eat things that we don't consider "food" so I bet your crabs are munching on something in there lol. As far as molts go, I think we just have to let them do their thing. I've had one of my crabs since June and he's never dug down. Not even to distress and it doesn't look like he'll be headed down that road any time soon. But I got another crab in October and literally as soon as she hit the sand she dug down. They know what they need, as frustrating as that is
