HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Now, I want to start off saying I am NOT upset by this behavior, I think it's adorable, I just want to know if it's normal.

So I have two hermit crabs, well three, but I am only going to be talking about the two, Big Bill and Little Bill. I got them at the same time in the same store, so I know they lived together. They are ALWAYS together. They used to sleep under their log together, and if they weren't sleeping together, Big Bill would get up and make sure they were! About a week ago, Little Bill decided to prepare for a molt. He started digging (in the same spot Snap, my third crab buried), and created several holes and tunnels. At night he was noisy and eating and drinking, then during the day he would burry. Now Big Bill has gone to the same spot and dug a hole and he was sitting in it all day. When I went in there about an hour ago, Little Bill was out and sitting next to Big Bill, now he is chillin' under the log (his favorite place). Big Bill Is probably out now (he always comes out when I spray the tank, he LOVES to be sprayed).

So my question is, is it normal for hermit crabs to be this close?? Even about to possibly molt together??

I think its normal, and oh so cute! Crabs have very unique and prominent personalities. It seems you have found a pair of soul mates!



Crabbers unite!!!

I have two teenies, I think that I just adopted and they are total besties! They sit forever on the bark I have for them and just hang out for hours. It's rare to see them not close by.

Yes, it is adorable! Never had hermits that were so close. Hopefully Snap, my buried crab, does not feel like a third wheel when he comes up

Nah! I'm sure they'll let him into their clique! I just hope he's not too big to cuddle in the gossip circle!

LOL, I hope not, he was small when he went down, but... who knows after a molt in good conditions
