Switching Shells Repeatedly?

Hi, I promised myself I would not be a helicopter hermit crab mommy but I think I might be... :anon:

Anyway, I just bought three new hermit crabs at the pet store (at least it wasn't the mall kiosk) and I figured they would all need time to get settled. One is sleeping in the cave and the other is buried in the corner which I assume are normal reactions. The third, however, is being capricious. He's roaming everywhere and trying on multiple shells and switching back and forth. He basically looks like this guy: Image
Whenever he tries to change shells, he ends up falling and scrambling around naked until he gets safely back into a shell. Is this normal for a new crab to 1) so thoroughly enjoy switching shells and 2) be so terrible at it? Is he maybe not used to having so many shell options? I just don't want him to tire himself out.

He might just really need to switch shells, and so overjoyed that he cant control himself. Try to stand by and make sure he doesnt end up with no shell. Other than that he will prob get into one and go down to dig and molt.

1-yes. He's happy since he didn't have them before. 2- I have never seen that and have no idea.

Update: He settled on a shell and went to sleep in the moss pit. :)
Hopefully he gets a little better at the falling down mid-swap thing.

Thanks!
