Dirty shell shop!

Post by hthecvt » Fri Mar 20, 2015 10:05 pm

Do you guys have to constantly rinse and clean your shell shop? Mine drag all their freaking substrate in there and it's a mess.

Drives me crazy!

Most people find their crabs use it as the primary toilet area. ;)

I spent 45 minutes 2 days ago cleaning out all the shells in my shell shop and deciding which ones to rotate in/out. 45 minutes! I found mostly sand but omg the amount of poop was still shocking. I told them they were gross jerks. They didn't seem to care. Lol

This weekend I'm going to buy one of those corner shower caddy's with suction cups and make that my shell shop. Right now it's just a plastic dish on the ground. I'm hoping them having to climb a ladder will knock some of the dirt off their legs before they reach the shells.

My hermits get a lot of sand and water and poop in there shells, and they are total gross jerks. I mean you don't see me pooping in my clothes/shells or closet/shell shop. I mean they have water dishes to get the poop out of there shells in.

Gross jerks
I mumble under my breath as I clean :headshake:

My shell shops are elevated with suction cups and they still drag sand up there and poop all over the place. Still, they stay cleaner longer than if I just had them on the ground. Yeah, they're kind of nasty..gotta love them anyway!

I flooded my shell shop last month with the humidifier... THAT was fun to clean out. The amount of melted poop inside of the shells.. sigh...

It was disgusting to clean! I think the part that I hate the most is that crab poop sinks into the skin. It smells like fruit left on a beach too long. Urp. If I forget to wear gloves I can smell it the next morning when I go to brush my teeth....

Yep, the shell shops are filled with poop everytime I go to clean them out. They also manage to drag some substrate up and sometimes hide/drop food there.

I have a that issue too, except I don't have a shell shop I just let my shells go in corners and the back of the tank, but they get poop in there shells and water, and food, and sand/EE.

Gross.................*starring at them with not to so enthusiastic eyes*
