My crabs won't stop hiding food

Every time I put food in my thank, especially fruits, they hide the food. The morning I'm just trying to find these fruits without success. Is it ok for them if I leave the food in the tank?

If you can find old food on the surface, definitely remove it when it gets yucky. If you can't find it, I wouldn't worry too much. I just check around now and then and remove what I see. No need to rip the tank apart looking for it - that'll just add stress. To you and the crabbies.

My new hermit crab hides food.
At least he isn't good at hiding it.

Mine love to hoard food. Unless it's right around the food dish I gave up on finding/scooping it all, haha. One time I was moving a piece of cork and accidentally bumped a crab, who scuttled off. Underneath him was a nice little hoard of food.
