HCA: Hermit Crab Association

So my purple pincher hermit crab has buried himself for almost a month now and I dont know what he is doing. He cant be molting because he already did not long ago. I got a new crab because he has been alone for a very long time and he needs to see his new friend. how do I know if he is dead or not? and how long should I wait until I go see for myself if he is alright?

He very well could be molting again! If he's been down that long, it's pretty much a given that he is. How big is he? When was the last time he molted?

during the winter months. i cant remember the month exactly. He is kinda big so its strange that he would do it again in such a short period of time.

well he came up yesterday and now he is hiding under some wood. he wont even interact with the new one. and the new one is just in the corner De-stressing for several days.

well something happened! they did interact but not like I hoped they would. I looked in the tank and I saw the new guy flipped over Gumbo(the one that was underground) and was sitting on him. the new one was just in his typical spot when this happened so it looks like Gumbo was the one that went over to it. When this was going on Gumbo was chirping up a storm and I moved the new guy over to the other side of the tank. Gumbo eventually got out and now is just keeping his distance from the new guy. Should I be worried now? Will they ever be friends?
