Around 11 this morning, not dreaming anybody would not be hiding, I zipped into the room where the crabs are, and Three of Three snapped back into his shell. He's been shell shopping, and it looked to me like he was trying to check this one out.
(Ugh, picture will be in next comment, as soon as I can see this thread from Tapatalk.)
Is he really that scared?

Re: Is he really that scared?

Now, on the one hand. I thought this was adorable. On the other hand, he has been looking, and I wasn't sure I was terribly helpful. There were about six shells in the tank, I think all of which he looked at. I found a handful in my beach gatherings, boiled them, and stuck them in a basket in the tank. The next time he came out, i realized the basket was probably too tall, so I made some ramps.

Seeing him on top of that huge shell, I thought maybe the ramps were insufficient, so I just eliminated the basket.

I don't know if that suits him any better, because now, at 8:30 in the evening, he's still in the exact same spot. I've been gone most of the day, so no one has been bothering them at all. And Two of Three, there in the stripy shell snuggled under the big shell, has been right there for at least two days.
Is there any way Three could be stuck there? Or could he really have just decided that was a comfortable enough spot to sleep all day?

They like to hang out in the shell shop.
Camouflage maybe?
And yes, they are very quick to react to movement, and especially shadows. Birds are a major predator for them!

He hadn't made it to the shell shop yet, he stayed parked on top of that big one. But, sometime in the couple hours since then he sure did, because he switched into one of my beach shells. It's bigger than his old one, and I think right this second he's having difficulty stuffing himself back under the big shell, lol. And Two of Three did get up and stretch his legs and settled back down again.
I guess I need to just chill and stop worrying so much.
