Worried about my new Hermies!?
Worried about my new Hermies!?
I just brought home my three hermit crabs yesterday and now two of the three have disappeared in to the sand! I have read that they dig to de-stress. One of my Hermies changed the shell the same night he was placed in the crabitat. I can hear him digging but the other one I can't. I am worried. What is he doing under there? Is he molting already? There is no smell so he most likely isn't dead. I am concerned that maybe the other crab has dug on top of it?

Hi! Welcome to HCA. Check out our care guides when you have a chance
New crabs dig down quite often and can be down for a few days or several weeks. Just be patient and be sure to offer nutritious foods and dechlorinated fresh and salt waters. (Use marine grade sea salt for their salt water).
