HCA: Hermit Crab Association

So, lately, Ark hasn't been doing much. Dumping out his food after eating, kicking sand into the water bowls, destroying the place basically, the usual thing, but, he's been hanging around in the 'shell bowl' ( An old plastic bowl that we weren't using anymore, properly rinsed out with scolding hot water and dried ) where I've been keeping the shells.
He just kinda sits there, sometimes tucked inside his shell, sometimes just kinda staring ( I think that's when he's sleeping because he doesn't do much until I 'wake him up' by moving him ) . Often times I can't even find him for a few moments because he blends in with the shells.
Anyone know what's up with him? Ender is still down, could he be lonely / depressed? Normally he's making a mess and wandering about / eating, but he's just kinda been hanging out in the shells recently. I know he doesn't need a change of one, since he changed when I first put them in there and he hasn't molted yet, and even if he did, he's strong enough to shove the shells around to pick out the ones he likes ( He's thrown the shells everywhere before, even the heavy ones )
Should I interact with him more? He seems to like it when I try to 'talk' with him, by wiggling my fingers, but I haven't been wanting to disturb him too too much since he's showing so many signs of premolt, he just hasn't found a spot to do it yet, despite having completely destroyed the tank multiple times from digging.

He definitley could be lonely. Especially with two crabs I have noticed this. If your rank is big enough getting a third would be a good option. They are very social creatures.

It's not unusual for them to hang out and sleep in shell shops. Mine are definite favorite hang-outs as I find them filled with poo often. Huge amounts of activity are actually usually a sign of stress so it may just be that he's settling in finally. Or he could soon dig down to molt. I would just continue with regular tank maintenance and leave him be, especially if he hasn't molted with you yet.

I'll try 'talking' with him some when he's out ( He started eating again, I'm just wondering when he will be going down, since he dug a massive hole and sat there for a few hours before moving again ) and won't mess with him for the moment. They live in a 99liter, clear plastic storage crate, so I'm not sure if I will get another one anytime soon, and if I ever do, they'll be little like Ender ( I wonder how big she'll end up being after this.. If she makes it, since she's been down for a good amount of weeks )

They hide among the empty shells during the day. I'll go to clean them occationally, and it's like duck duck goose on if the shell will be empty or if there's a crab inside.

My crabs hang and sleep in the shell shop all the time.

Wonder if the shells remind them of their former home then Either way, Ark poked out of his shell when I went to spot clean ( He dumped out his food bowls. Again. And I cleaned up the poop in the shell bowl ) and wiggled his feelers at me before I started cleaning, so, at least he still seems happy. Just hoping he goes down soon.
