Do they slow down before a molt?

Post by Krusty2015 » Sat Feb 20, 2016 11:14 pm

Ruby is starting to slow down a bit and spend more time in a hut or in a little burrow she dug next to the heater. Just enough to cover her legs. I have had her 3 months now. The tank temp and humidity are good both in the 80's during the day and the tank temp goes anywhere from 77 to 79 at night. The other crab in with her krusty is doing great and is being active at night sometimes even late afternoon. I did notice the walnut piece I put in there last night is gone and usually she steals it because krusty doesn't like them. Maybe I'm worried over nothing and it's just another weird crab thing. :)

As long as Ruby has been eating and drinking, I wouldn't worry. Stealing walnuts sounds like she's building up protein, fat and carbs for a possible molt. How do her legs look? If they aren't very hairy and you can't see black nails on her walking legs, then a pending molt is likely.

She has had no nails or hair since I got her. Good to know she is doing that to build up herself up.
