Is my hermit crab stuck?

Post by Hershozz » Tue Feb 23, 2016 3:03 am

I just got a huge brick of coco fiber today. They're tank finally has enough substrate! ....or does it??? I'll provide a picture below, it's a ten gallon tank. I have freshwater and saltwater available, as well as food (just fed them cheese, Skelly loved it!) plenty of shells, something for them to climb on, etc... But back to the substrate. Basil, my bigger crab, has dug himself completely to the bottom and is scratching at the glass. I can see him (I'll post a picture) but I cannot tell if he's just trying to dig deeper or if he's stuck down there? The substrate shouldn't be too wet, I wringed it out and all. Skelly isn't much of a digger, but she dug some and got out later. So, how do I know if he's stuck??

I doubt he is stuck! They are probably enjoying all the new substrate! They dig for many reasons. For fun, to de-stress, to cool down or to molt. It's very typical he went digging down right away! Nothing I would worry about

Also, IM0, I would make sure the substrate is 6in through out the entire tank!
