Lonely crab?

One of my pp's ruby went down for her first molt a few days ago. I have had her for several months and she is an active crab and was eating and drinking/storing a ton of water before she went down so I'm not worried about her at the time being.... however krusty my other pp seems depressed. He is going through all the shells every night and sleeping in areas where she normally does. He is still eating and drinking normally. Just wondering if he is looking for her and is lonely???

They know they aren't alone. :) He's probably enjoying having the place to himself!

My Captain Jack has been doing the same but a VERY active little guy! He seems to enjoy sleeping in the corner where Peanut is down molting at the moment lol

Its been my experience that they can be best buddies until one of them goes down for a molt, then that ends and his best buddy is eating them while molting (they can't help it)I guess the smell of a molting crab is overpowering .Just my opinion from my own experience.

It is not normal for crabs to cannibalize others while molting. If you are experiencing molt attacks, there are usually other factors at play including: overcrowding, diet, substrate depth.

What SG said. Please read through the Caresheet and FAQ section found here: viewforum.php?f=51. There is a ton of great info there on land hermit crab care.
