So I am just wondering if this is normal behavior we got Sheldon and two others on sat and they have been up all day and night climbing eating and then I come home and his shell opening is facing up and he is all the way in his shell, wondering if he surface molting or just being a weirdo

Maybe he was crawling then got scared and popped back in fast? In my experience of a surface molt they are kind of hanging out of their shell still moving for a few days...not much movement just a little...then they are super still for a few days then they eat their exo then it takes a while for them to harden up...

PTCrabs is correct, a surface molting hermit crab will be hanging out of their shell to some degree.
I wouldn't worry too much about him unless he doesn't move for a couple of days. If he was ill he'd most likely be limp.
This is what a surface molting hermit crab looks like,
