Crabs buried have not resurfaced

Hi. I'm new to crabbing and bought 4 crabs at the shore not knowing all I know now about not buying them from such places and out of the 4 only 1 survived. I bought all the necessary substrate , things to climb on , salt water , bottled spring water, and use the food list from here as a list of safe foods to give them. So being they need friends I got more at a small pet shop in town that actually takes care of them
. So they were all hanging out and would come out mostly at night. I've been giving them a boat load of food to choose from and take it out after a day and at night I put something fresh in there. Paco the one that survives loves honey lol , anyway the 4 I bought I guess about a week or maybe even a week and a half now buried themselves and I haven't seen them at all and I work late afternoons so I'm up all night and I've been watching to see if they have come up. Pack the oldest one that survived stayed up too and was climbing an oak stick I got and the others actually seemed to love it to when they were up top. I noticed 2 holes and runnels so I figured that maybe 1 or 2 of them might be molting , but now even paco my oldest one has buried himself and no one has come up now for at least 2-3 days not even for food or water. I did notice that before the last 2-3 days that I would see sand and substrate in the fresh water and see the food was eaten or at least moved around. The humidity is about 80% never under 75% and the temp is 75 . Sometimes it may go as high as 80 or as low as 70 but 99% of the time it's 75-80% humidity and 75 degrees in the tank. I have a 20 gallon long tank and they are all small crabs . One may be considered medium but they all seem pretty small to me compared to some of them that I've seen. One of the tunnels looks like the crab came out of it and may have buried himself in the sand coconut fiber mix part of the tank and in another section I have some it's like mulch wood and it's for hermit crabs and they just love it. They burry themselves in there most of the time but where the sand meets the mulch you wood there's a hole and a tunnel and that one may be molting but the rest can't all be molting can they? I'm just worried cause they haven't come up for food or water . I don't smell anything fishy and I've been giving them shrimp too . Surprising I don't smell anything with that in there but there's no movement and no ones been up for 3 days now. What should I do if anything and is this normal. I've had paco for I guess 2-3 months now and the other 4 I've had about a month maybe month and a half. They all get along great and paco even went she'll shopping which was really cool to watch. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to dig them up and accidentally kill them if this is normal and I should just wait it out . But how long should I wait till I do do something .sorry for such a long post but I just want all the facts to be known so I can get the best possible advice possible. Thanks

Totally normal
They like to dig under and chill for extended periods of time, even when not molting. Sometimes my guys will burrow for a day or two and then pop back up. They are under for weeks when molting and don't surface for food and water until they are done, so I wouldn't worry if they don't come up for a while. Just leave them be and let them do their crabby thing. I'm sure it's pretty boring in there right now, but they'll come back.
They do tend to like it hotter than 75 though, so I would recommend boosting the temp up to at least 80

I haven't seen the crab in the picture below in a week. Today, I noticed a small "window" along the edge of the tat, and sure enough, there he was! They tunnel, they dig, they hang out 5" down for days on end. Since this picture was taken, he has shut the window and gone somewhere else...

Mine have been down molting for about 3 weeks...I'm pretty bored lol so I decided to turn off the bubblers and put my ear to the glass last night and I was able to hear scratching...it was kinda neat! So try that, it will maybe give you peace of mind knowing they are moving at least
but like others have said it's totally normal for them to do that especially since they are new...probably distressing

Update: I've got great news. I looked under the tank which I should have thought of myself but didn't and sure enough I see 4 hermit crabs alive and well. 2 have molted and paco my oldest is eating his old exoskeleton . The other one I've named cliffhanger cause he likes to hang on the branch I gave him has changed shells and took paco's old shell. Then just today another one popped up and then made another tunnel in a different spot and is now under the sand again lol. The 5th one I can't find but I'm sure he is just somewhere and either molting too or just doing crab stuff under the sand lol. But you all were right and I am gonna keep all of it in mind for the future so I don't do anything stupid to stress them out if they stay under for a while again. Paco is actually still halfway under but his shell is sticking out . But cliffhanger went by the rocks and made a little hideout and put the sponge over himself lol. So thank you everyone that helped put my mind at ease and the crabs are fine and actually doing well. I will post a few pics as they pop up for any interested to see how I have it set up and my shelled friends
. I have different substrates in there so they can all go where they like it the best and it seems they are all very happy and loving it
which makes me happy I am doing it right .

Tips:
-It gets easier with each molt.
- When they make a 'window' they usually make an appearance soon.
-When you know their 'molting time frame'... When you start worrying they usually pop up soon after.
-We stress more than the crabs do when they are down!
Hope this helps and welcome

Hey there!
Thank you for your post! It makes me feel better! I've had my crabs for about 2 months. They were very active, but started burying themselves, but they would come back up. Until now. I haven't seen two of them for about a week, and the last one went down about 3 days ago. They are all completely buried and are not coming up for food or water.
So your post makes me feel better that they are just being crabs!
Thanks again!
