Interesting...Input?
Okay, so I upgraded my tank to a 100 gallons, and I completed it today, but started moving my crabs yesterday, because a majority of my decorating was done last night. Whew...a LOT OF WORK...no, really, you have no idea. At first I bought a 75 gallon, and the stand started to collapse when I was completely done mixing the sand, ee and msw. (It was a particle board stand). Anyway, couldn't find a wood stand reasonable enough by itself, so I bit the bullet and upgraded to bigger aquarium with a nice wooden stand. Okay...back to the original story. So last night, I moved the crabs. I have a total of 14 crabs. All large and jumbo. 12 PP, 2 E's. Only 9 were up in my old tank. Last night I left a hide, fresh water, msw and food in my old tank (along with all original sand). When I went in last night, I had one crab up in my old tank, so I moved him/her over, which leaves 4 in my old tank. Tonight my husband, son and I move my old tank up against my new tank. I just went in there and NO JOKE, every single one of my crabs in the new tank were over looking into the old tank like they were looking for their buddies. I say it is cute/yes a little sad, but I am leaving the 4 until they come up. In the meantime, I'll keep changing food if it goes bad, etc. Temp/Humidity is great, still have gauges in there. I know I'm doing the right thing, I just think it's pretty interesting. We were really careful moving the tank. My mom also has hermits. She rescues them also. She thinks I should dig them up, and that the hc's are telling me something is wrong with their buddies. I disagree. I just think they miss them. That is why I put the tanks together. As soon as they come up and look safe, I will move them. I think it is pretty interesting...has anyone else had this while moving tanks? Does anyone have any input? Thanks!

I've never had that, as I'm pretty sure my 4 at the time were overjoyed when I moved them from the 10 gallon to the 55. I do wish I had some insight, but this does prove they have some sort of memory, and sense of location even if it's not the same as ours. XD But, it's super cute. Congratulations on the upgrade too, I'm super jealous! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures!
I eventually want to upgrade, but I'm worried about my house supporting it lol. It's an old house, and it's been moved before, and added onto, so i'm a bit nervous. I need to get somebody who knows a bit about foundations come over and take a look, but I have no idea who to call for something like that in my tiny little town.

Thank you for your input Rawrgeous! When I walked into the room and witnessed that, I didn't have my phone, so I real told my husband & son to come quick so they could witness it. I wish I had a picture besides my mental picture to share with you! Here is this huge tank, 5 feet long, and 10 crabs are alongside 1.5-2ft of it grouped together just staring. (I'm not trying to make anyone jealous, honest- if you knew me you would know that is not my personality). My other tank is larger than that, but that's what they were doing. Very strange, cute, and sad. I cannot wait for the other 4 to come up! I will figure out the picture thing tomorrow! I know I have really enjoyed everyone else's pictures very much!
Understandable on the upgrade! I would love to have an older house like that! They have so much character! I bet that was a neat experience to move it!!! Very cool!
Well, I need to try to sleep! Goodnight!

I have to giggle because that would be quite some sight to see! As for the house- Eh, it's straight from the 70's, but it's ours.
It wasn't us that moved it though, it was moved somewhere in the 20's, and I know you aren't trying to make me jealous! I just really want a big tank, so it's inevitable!
Sleep well, and goodnight!

Interesting...Input?
Okay...finally figured the picture thing out!! Who hoo! It was hard taking a full picture of my tank with my phone, so did best I could, then broke it up. First pic is side view from right side, second picture is side view from left side. Then full view. Then I took pictures from right to left. Pools, feeding area, moss pit, shell shack, climbs, etc. my uvb bulb timer went off while taking the pics. The last pic is of the shells I purchased when I drove over to Daytona. Somebody wanted to see those. They are large/extra large/jumbo. I'm sure I'll come across more things to put in the tank. My last tank was a tall tank...this one isn't. Also, this one has the black back, so I had to get a fluorescent light bc natural light doesn't come through that.
. Crabs were all hiding. I'll try to get pics of them later. I don't mess with them.

When we had our jungle vine in the tat, we just had it hanging from one thing to another since it is so bendable, made it pretty easy. Ours went from sub to our little magnetic mushroom reptile shelf, then to the shell shack and finally the moss pit (we had the large size so it was fairly long!). I have also seen some members here that have them hanging off of hooks like 3m bathroom hooks or even suction cup hooks.

I hate to say it but if it's flaking as badly as you say maybe contact the seller and request a replacement/refund? Mine certainly didn't flake that bad, and I'd hate for you to lose money on a product that won't work for you. I'd bend it into place and shake it and see if it continues to flake once bent into shape first. I will mention watch it since there is wire inside. It should be fine, but if it gets exposed at all then it's at risk to rust.

Oh my goodness. It's so pretty! You did such a great job. I'll bet the crabs are in heaven with so much room...Or at least they will be after they are done morning the loss of the old tank! lol I am curious on how you implement UVB. It's something I've considered trying, I just don't know how to do it without the glass filtering it all out/ the crabs climbing all over it and getting hurt. Thank you so much for sharing!
Re: Interesting...Input?
That new tank set-up is so inviting! The four crabs still buried in the other tank have no idea what they're missing

Re: Interesting...Input?
Thank you everyone!
As for the uvb- I move the glass tops and prop it. Along the glass and the lid of the tank. Works great! Leaves a tiny gap. On my old tank I had a glass lid as well. I propped the lid up and used press & seal around edges. I've never seen my crabs go close to the light. It is a reptisun uvb 5.0 light.
As for jungle vine, mine has never flaked. My secret for it staying.....zip ties!!! I use clear ones. I cut off the suction cups. They don't work in my tank. Then I zip tie it to whatever I want. My crabs love it!! They climb it all of the time!
Thanks again for the compliments!

Re: Interesting...Input?
Have to agree it is a beautiful set up GotButterflies!! Question. I noticed u have the coco hut and also a larger hut with the leaves around it. Do the hermies tend to have a preference? Mine seem to like smaller spaces more. I made the larger hideout with Tupperware and river rocks and seems they like to use that as a tunnel to get to another hide-y spot.
