So much energy?
So much energy?
Bellatrix just molted and came up yesterday, and I've only seen her take crab power naps(up to an hour) is it normal behavior for a new molter to have such energy levels? I've had to clean up messes for two days! My substrate hasn't seen this much action in months

my current life! i have two molters up. one from almost two months ago one from almost a month. i have found signs and seen both on the hamster wheel (only walking a few steps). in the salt water pools, climbing everything, sooo much poop in the shell shop, along with checking out so many shell's and they are even awake during the day!!! one night they even dragged the food dish under a cave as well.
Re: So much energy?
I would assume so. I mean, you'd want to move around too after being underground for weeks at a time! lol. She's probably just checking stuff out.

Re: So much energy?
Totally normal
I love it when they tear up the tank! Happy hermies

Yeah she is up all day and night, taking only short naps wherever she feels the need...right in the middle of the tank, food shell, corner, inside the cholla I love itJust Jay wrote:my current life! i have two molters up. one from almost two months ago one from almost a month. i have found signs and seen both on the hamster wheel (only walking a few steps). in the salt water pools, climbing everything, sooo much poop in the shell shop, along with checking out so many shell's and they are even awake during the day!!! one night they even dragged the food dish under a cave as well.

Re: So much energy?
Athena and bellatrix are both still awake, Bella has been all over the tank, even climbing!(Finally two crabs who overcame their fear of heights) and Athena has claimed a corner by the uth & cholla, where she drags food to eat(it's hard for me to get to over there) and is currently trying to dig under the cholla, but the sub is dry and no one can dig under. Their behavior is so different than Persephone, my only one who has not gone down but came to me freshly molted, who sleeps all the time
Here is Athena in her corner, you can see the piles of dry sand she has made, and she has a protein cookie with her she hid when I took the pic

Re: So much energy?
Hi guys I'm new with having my crab friends and was wondering if any one has had acrab that was really shy And timid ? We have 6 crabs and my sons crab has been so shy that we see hi me come out some Times in the tank and I can get him to come out when I hold him but if any movement happens he hides and don't come out. Well today my husband was holding him and the crab cam out and literally Came almost all the way out of his shell. And now doesn't seem to be shy or timid at all and has been very hyper runing around the tank any of you guys had this happen? Sory couldn't figure out how to post to my page.
Re: So much energy?
We recommend not holding the crabs, they are a prey animal and see us as predators. So when the crab almost came all the way out of his shell he was trying to escape. Crabs are nocturnal and usually sleep all day and come out at night. When they run around like that is usually a sign of distress. Crabs are presented at pet stores as cheap "easy" pets but really they are one of the most high maintenance. They require a lot of care. They naturally hide from us as they are prey animals. Check out the crab care guides in the forumsmrs.mr.hayner wrote:Hi guys I'm new with having my crab friends and was wondering if any one has had acrab that was really shy And timid ?
