Molting questions

Post by MeowzTheKat » Sun Dec 03, 2017 7:52 pm

So I have a hermie who is just a baby. No bigger than an inch. He has been buried for over a month and I just have a few questions and concerns.
1. For his size approximately how long will molting tanking?
2. My substrate is not moist enough to hold its shape at all so will he suffocate?
3. Is there anyway to tell if he died during the molting process since I know you shouldn't dig them up when molting.

1. If your sub isn't moist enough to hold a sandcastle and is crumbly and dry, you need to dig because a cave wouldn't have held and the crab has most likely suffocated.

2. Anywhere from a few weeks to a few months is normal for a molt for a small/medium crab.

It's not a baby, crab babies look like plankton (zoea), but probably even a couple of years old.
