Holding Crab Down in Water

Post by PinchersAndShells » Fri Oct 05, 2018 7:56 am

After I got out of the shower I noticed two of my crabs in the salt water dish. One was holding the other under the water, and I'm not quite sure what to make of it. I dont think it was a shell fight because there was a lack of rocking. I removed the crabs from the water but I'm not really distressed, I just thought it was a weird behavior worth sharing.

Holding Crab Down in Water

Post by RiNiKy506 » Fri Oct 05, 2018 8:54 am

Got Butterflies male crab held a female down in salt water after the female dumped her eggs in the freshwater. Does she have eggs?

Yeah. I was also going to suggest breeding behaviour!

Yes, my male did this to my female after the female dumped zoeae in the fw. Have you checked your pools for zoeae?

Edit: Perhaps if she didn't dump them in the pool, she dumped them somewhere else.

I did not check the crab for eggs and I did not have time to check the pool. I was actually late for work as is. Image
I can check when I get home tonight however. If it is a breeding situation I think that would be really cool, but I don't have the funds or time to try to raise them. If it is breeding behavior I'm glad they're comfortable enough to do so. :)

The pools are empty. Leaves me wondering what all that was about, but if there were eggs at one point in time it's very possible they were dropped in the moss pit (all my crabs hang out in it during the day, it's their go to spot.)

He's telling her, "I want you to remember this moment the next time you have eggs. You drop them in here!"
