I have never seen this before

So my crab was happily munching on an egg shell then dragged it into the pool. I thought he sort of fell in and would be out quickly. But he stayed in almost 20 minutes! The first video you can actually stop watching at about 2 minutes I think. The 2nd video is him coming up. Finally. What I found in the pool, before I watched the video, was foamy stuff. And the eggshell. I assume the foamy stuff was from the eggshell. Foamed up from the bubbler.

That's strange... I didn't think they could stay under that long, especially since their gills are meant for land!

They can stay submerged for short periods of time, they just cannot breath as well underwater as they can on land.

Some people back in the day - believe it was sugarselections, a member of this site a few years back) observed one of her crabs staying under for around an hour!
For a healthy crab, a couple of minutes is no reason to panic IMO.

I have caught my straws in pools for 15-20 minutes and they were already in when I saw them. I figure they have easy access in and out with crafting mesh or the air lines for the bubblers. They know their limits when they need to resurface, or I at least hope so.

They have modified gills that have to stay moist in order for them to breathe properly, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they can only be on land.
They can stay under for a long while (IIRC over an hour has been observed in the past) as long as they have a way out. If they don’t have a way out they will drown.
