Is my crab stuck under his sand?

Post by Manny 223 » Sat Oct 03, 2020 11:51 pm

One of my hermit crabs has been under for two days now but i can hear him just moving around nonstop and the sound of the sand and glass rubbing is driving me nuts should i dig him up? Does anyone have any recommendations about putting something on inside base of the tank?

Don’t dig him up. They burrow a lot, so that’s probably just him digging some tunnels. Unless you’re using calcium sand which solidified after drying, there shouldn’t be any real concern here

NEVER dig up your crabs unless a bacterial flood or an emergency. Hermit crabs love to buried and dig, they will be under for months when they molt I would recommend reading all the care sheets here on the HCA. Pls do your research to make sure all your care is correct

Health: Molting

Just thought I'd add the link to check out the basic care sheet:

Never bother a buried crab. Years ago I disturbed a molter, but he ended up being okay.

There have been times when I'm sure one of mine was practicing for the drummer's position while he was under.

I can hear my 75g whispering from the barn.
