So I’ve had my current female hermit crab Tig for almost 4 months and decided to get her a tank mate. I tried to get one that look similar in size since Tig is fairly big and my new crab Venus is actually a bit bigger. I found out today that Venus is a male. I’m not sure about introducing new crabs so originally I put Venus in an isolation tank and dipped him in distilled water. I put them together for a little bit the first day and Venus sat on top of Tig’s shell. I was concerned of something happening overnight when I wasn’t watching so I put Venus in the isolation tank for the night and put the together again in the morning. Today the had a feeler fight and it seemed like Tig won because Venus backed off and started walking away while Tig advanced on him. A while later, they had another feeler fight but this time Venus kept raising his claws as if he was going to pinch Tig. Tig kept ducking into her shell but wouldn’t walk away so Venus went back into isolation for the night. Is this aggression or is this how they introduce each other?

Re: Possible aggression?
Usually when hermit crabs have feeler fights it may look aggressive, but this is them show playfulness or establishing a pecking order. I would still keep an eye on them just in case, though.
