HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Both my guys are doing great and made it through their first molt and were active for a few weeks however over the last few days of them I noticed has either been under the sand much more when the other one has already been awake for about 3 hours. The one who is awake is eating and very active I am just a tad worried since I dont beleive my substrate is moist enough even though the humidity in the tank is 80-85% consistently.

You can check your sub by poking something like a chop stick down along the glass to the bottom. If the sand collapses in, your sub is probably too dry (altho the top inch is often drier, so watch the hole further down). If water pools in the bottom of the hole it is too wet. When both your crabs are above ground, you can add water and mix up the sub. If you have a crab underground, you can mist heavily and let it soak in, or pour a bit of water along the edges and allow it to work it's way in.
That said, it is normal for crabs to dig, even when they aren't molting.

I did a bunch of misting yesterday and today and the sand seems a lot better. I didnt see the one yesterday but I got some strawberries that might tempt him out.
