loves the heat

Post by Mamakins » Mon Sep 10, 2007 9:41 pm

Lately, and I'm mean almost every day for the last week, my smallest E Tye Dye has been spending the day hanging upside down on the screen lid, directly under the heat lamp. WHy is he doing this. The temp close to the substrate reads 80-81 most of the time. That light bulb has got to be HOT!! I've had the crabs crawling on the underside of the lid before but he is pretty much spending all day right there under the heat lamp. I just checked on him now and saw him scrambling into the fresh water dish. No doubt he's thirsty!

he just might like that spot. i have read that hermies have a chosen "favorite spot" and that is where they hang out alot.

my hermies favorite spot is on the piece of driftwood i have in the middle of my tank. i dont know why either?

My crabs each have their own spot in the moss pits and it takes quite a long time in the early morning for everyone to get situated just right.

My straws have begun doing the same thing. I'm wondering if it isn't warm enough for them, so tomorrow I am going to work at making the lid/lighting/heating better for them. I'd like to add another heating lamp.

LOL, they do like to keep us in wonder, don't they? My largest E, Zoidi would do the same when I had a mesh lid. She's climb up and hang upside down right under the heat lamp. It made me nervous because I knew it was hot, so I moved the lamp over, away from her. When I came back she was under the lamp again and I could tell she was thinking "you move MY lamp one more time and I'm gonna take a clawful of your hand with me...." LOL... I wouldn't worry about it... if he gets too hot, he'll move, lol

Ya, I guess he's okay. I just thought it was odd and I worried about it being too hot for him. Temp at ground level reads 78-82 most of the time.
