Pinchy Pinchy

Post by Guest » Sun Sep 16, 2007 7:20 pm

M&M has pinched me 2 times in the same spot with his BP and it hurts! I have no clue why every time I handle him, he pinches me :| I have my hand out stretched and he still manages to pinch me  Anyone know why he's pinching me?

maybe he just doesn't like you  :| maybe your should give him more time to get used to you if you haven't really handled him that much before.

Big Ragu used to pinch me too. And it hurt, pretty bad, he's got a huge claw. I handled him, and talked to him a calming voice. I take out my crabs and let them run around on a blanket, and would pick up Big Ragu often, and talk to him. That my sound weird, but, I wanted him to get used to my voice and get him acquainted with handling him. I was letting him climb around in some vines for a a few days, and didn't handle him. when ever I would interrupt his activities by picking him up, he would clamp down. But now, I pick him up by the shell, hold out my finders underneath him, and he pops out, and doesn't pinch. This took a month or so to get him to the point where he was comfortable with me. I hope this helps, good luck.

hermitastic gave you some very good advice. I had a pincher, but he didn't strike every time I held him. So I started wearing a thin sock on my hand. I guess he didn't like the taste of sock, and eventually he came around and kept his BP closed.

My Indo pinched me last night for the first time. I was suprised by one thing though - he was actually very kind about it - he used his small pincher instead of that big, nasty BP of his. He even let me wiggle him loose without clamping down or taking a piece of skin with him.

Has anyone else had their crabs pinch with their LP?

Darling uses her LP and gives me a warning pinch to let me know when I've disturbed her nap or something.

Well, my crabs never pinch me... but then again, I rarely handle them, except when I feel it's necessary.

But when I first started crabbing, I took Chipper out to take pictures of her, and she really didn't want to be picked up at that moment. She pinched me pretty hard, but not for a long time... just let me know that she wasn't happy. :\ lol

I have pleasant crabbies though, I'm sure if I wanted to handle them more often, they wouldn't give me a hard time.

Good luck with M&M, I hope he warms up to you soon. :)

One of the things I try with my pinchy crabs is to pick them up and turn them so their opening is facing the ceiling when I handle them. This way, when they do come out, they're more concerned with flipping themselves over than with taking a hunk out of my hand. I find that the first few seconds out of the shell are my danger area, if I can make it past that I'm usually safe. So, by flipping them, they get a chance to look around a bit, and adjust themselves. This usually ends with them tucking the pincers under their bodies so they can walk rather than grabbing me.
