So i ahve my new E and he is still a bit skittish. whenever i approach the tank he backs away, hides...anything he can do. Well now hes become the man of the house. if i am about to walk by and i see him there backing up, i always stop and back away slowly so that he can do whatever he was doing. I'm whipped by these darn crabs......

I'm the same way with my crabs, generally. At night when I check on them to make sure they're all doing okay, I back away from the tank slowly if I see one of them and notice that they notice me.

 Sad, isn't it???

I tend to holler at my hubby if he walks by the tank when a crab or two is at the food dishes. :laughing8:

I do that to my brother. If he comes in my room while the crabs are out and about I say, "Freeze. The crabs are out." That bugs him to death...

I do find myself "sneaking up" on my crabs, too....it's the only way to see some of them! :laughing1:

When I take pictures of them, I have to take them from far away, and at night. I use the zoom feature, and then the infra-red targeter(since they can't see it), then take a picture with the flash on. Works pretty well - it's how I get my pictures of my babies in their natural processes.

My mom always wants to go look at the crabs when they're eating or something, and she never understands why I tell her to back off and not to bug them.

After I get the kids to sleep I like to go and sit in the peace and quiet 8) and watch the crabs.
But last night I realized my white housecoat makes me totally visible even with nothing but their red light on!
Maybe if I dressed like a cat burglar... I could 'steal' a few more glimpses!

lol My roomie's three year old waits so patiently to see them and the second one does come out, he yells and points and gets all excited... And then the crabs are all hiding again. lol Poor little munchkin. lol

yeah one way of expressing it, is you're not a REAL crab lover until you've woken up in the middle of the night and, instead of getting a drink of water, wonder "what the crabs are doing" and sneak over to the crabitat instead. Try it some night after giving them table sugar and the tank will sound like a pinball game, with crabs running around half bonkers! :D

Thats why, my bed and tank are lined up perfectly practically. :D

It's not right at the end of my bed, but at the wall opposite the foot of my bed. That way, when I want I can watch them. Having a heat lamp on over cold nights helps me see what they're doing as well. With that type of lighting, they don't notice it but I can see them. It's easier to go over to the tank if my room is dark with said heat lamp on. Also, I swear the kids are getting used to me. So long as I don't make too much noise or ruckus heading over, they don't react as strongly. It's pretty cool.
