Oooo, I hate it when they are stubborn. Try boiling the shells and rinsing in dechlor water and laying them all opening up in the crabitat. Also rearrange the furniture, this often prompts some shell shopping at my house.

Dont be too concerned. My hermie Jupiter has been wearing the same tiny shell since I bought him several months ago. Here is a pic of him:

His shell just covers his abdomen. He cant even tuck in his back 2 walking legs! He thinks hiding means putting his eyes between his pincers! He has many shells to choose from but absolutely refuses to even look at them.
Oh, he has moulted and grown since that photo, but guess what? Yup, still wearing the same shell.....

Lucky you! Its great when they switch to a good new shell.
As for Jupiter, he may just be one of the most stubborn and quirky hermies on this planet!
I will try and get some new pics of him Raen.

Ok, forgive me if this is a silly question, but can they ever get stuck in their shells? Like could Jupiter be stuck in that little shell or is it just that he doesn't want to give up his baby blanket?
Sounds like your new one finally chose a new shell. Yay! I wrote about this in my other thread, but I too want my big guy to find a new shell. He looks so uncomfortable! But he is very active! I'll have to get a pic of him.
peace,
ci

I dont think Jupiter is stuck, he has even had a perfect moult after taking that pic, and seems to be in optimum health. He just really doesnt want to give up that ridiculous shell for some reason! I have to try and get a pic of him now, he is actually bigger! Oh well, at least it not a painted one.
