Does anyone else's crabs have a heirachy?

Post by Rocky » Sun Jan 15, 2012 12:17 am

Hey guys, I noticed that my crabs have a very strict pecking order.. Whoevers first is the boss, and less the boss in descending order of who is introduced into the tank, its really cool to watch! :D Especially because my tiniest crab, George, was my first crabby, and he just waved a claw at my biggest crab, Draco, who is a fairly recent addition, and Draco backed off and waited his turn to eat
Has anyone else noticed this with their crabs?
Just for a size comparison, here they are  same shell with egg in it that Draco had to wait to eat out of

aw, too cute :) I did have one time Scaredy was eating in the food dish and wouldn't let another crab get in the dish and kept pushing the crab away :)

oh yes! isn't that kind of thing fun to watch? my crabs have a definite hierarchy too. i call PP Lilith the "queen" of the tank because she definitely runs it. she's also been there the longest, 6/7 years. PP Bacon is 4.5 years with me, and he's the second highest in the ranking. but then it doesn't go quite by age because my viola Garnet sneaks in there....the largest viola, but the one who has been with me for the shortest amount of time.

they all know their place!

Its really cool, I think that George is kind of a jerk sometimes though  but he's definately the king of the castle

Lilith can certainly be a little witchy too, but we love them all the same, don't we :D !

George could do anything and I'd still love him, he's my special little guy :) He's the only crab out of the three I first bought at a mall kiosk that is still around and kickin'. He's also the guy who did a surface molt (somehow) in the horrible container I had them in, which made me start searching for answers, thank you George!

I've definitely noticed with mine, like yours, size doesn't mean squat. :P

it was the same with my Lilith as with George, without the surface molt. She survived during my very first horrible conditions (think kk with wood shavings). so she gets to do what she likes!
