Why does my hermie look like a booger?!

Post by JDL_1104 » Thu Aug 18, 2016 4:30 pm

I thought I had 2 down for their first molt. But I found Sheldon, whom I thought was down, up last night shell shopping. He's the most skittish one. I literally Peeping Tom'd him because I've never seen any of them actually changing shells. I just see the aftermath of a new outfit. I'm glad no one saw me.. I must've looked ridiculous. It was pretty interesting to watch, for me. Anyways, I've looked up what a hermit crab looks like with no she'll and, let me tell you... that was NOT what I saw. His body was whitish clear, slimy, and legit looked like mucous..

What...What's going on.. [ASTONISHED FACE]

Without pics, I couldn't tell you. Most land hermit crabs have a soft, almost plump looking, moist sluglike abdomen.

The shell change happened so quickly I couldn't get a picture. Slug-like is definitely a good description. The pictures I saw looked more like a lobster body. Well, that's a relief that it sounds as if it's normal. Thank you :)
