Never thought this would happen to me but I started smelling that "fishy" smell yesterday and it's stronger today. So I'm assuming one of my crabs has passed.
What do I do now? I have one crab up and another had been down a few weeks (had 3 altogether)...do I try to dig and find the dead crab and risk disturbing the possible molter? I can't imagine just leaving the dead crab... it's pretty stinky.
Plus I'm due to give birth in 8 days so I'd like to take care of it sooner rather than later!

Re: Dead crab smell
It is best to not dig...is it possible they hid a piece of stinky food that might be rotting? There also have been members that can smell a "'molting" smell which has been mistaken for the death smell. I'd wait it out for now, as hard is that may be. Are you the only one that can smell it? Or do others in the home notice it as well? The only reason I ask is pregnancy does make your senses more sharp, and sensitive to odors. Good luck, and hopefully the stinky goes away!! :/

Re: Dead crab smell
I don't think it could be food. Lately I've been really diligent about taking perishable food out every morning. The only thing I may not have caught was a piece of chicken but I put a same piece in before and by morning it's really dry so even if it was buried I think it wouldn't smell... it'd be more like beef jerky chicken. Idk.
Good point about pregnancy nose, I'll ask my husband when he gets home if he smells it too. If he does I think I will dig, thinking back I may know exactly where this hermit dug down. I'll only dig there and if I don't find him there then I'll think again!
Thanks!
