I decided to take the cutie out for a bit, check on him, maybe bond a little. He scrapes on the inside of his shell it sounds like??? Anyway I was watching him and then! This! This like...bite on him? IS it a bite? Is it just a joint they have that I'm freaking out about? I'm hoping he's not wounded, I don't think my other crabbie, Red did it. He's been hiding for a while though :x Please help! Boss is actually very skittish towards any movement so I'm thinking he got hurt a long time back and I'm just now noticing. Q_Q

It looks like an injury...but maybe a more experienced crabber will chime in soon (I've been crabbing just over a yr now)!!

Well, see, I looked at it a bit more and...well do crabs bleed??? Anyway he's not bleeding, and i touch the claw itself gently and he didn't yank back like it was aching or hurting, but again, I'm not sure how crabbies...operate with pain? D:

Looks like his leg either got caught in something and ripped it open above the knee, or another crab took a chunk out of his thigh. :(

No, they don't bleed and they don't always show pain reactions. To me that looks like a recent wound. If the exoskeleton has been broken, the flesh underneath usually darkens or blackens with time, but I can't tell if it's just the joint that's been hyperextended or if there's actual missing exo.

It will be fine, it might eventually fall off, but he will regrow it the next time he molts. I would recommend trying to figure out if he managed to hurt himself or got himself caught on something in the tank . A lot of the time these are freak accidents with no explanation though!

i figured they wouldn't bleed because, crustaceans (spellcheck don't fail me now!) don't have blood, I think? But I just wanted to make sure :x

It's like, dug in a bit and it feels like a scab, kinda rough and bumpy when I touched it. He didn't flinch like I said, and he can operate as usual with it (he was furious that I dared take a picture of him...and he showed this by pushing one food shell into his water bowl >>).

i dunno, when I looked in on him, when he moves out of the shell it makes a scraping noise. I bet he's too big for it. I got him a few that's his size, and he was interested, but he didn't switch out >>

I...I can't say Red did or did not, because I haven't seen the critter in days honestly, but I've had Boss...two...two weeks now? He came from a tank with empty shells in it, unsure if any were dead however, so I can't say for certain if it's something I overlooked.

Lol, I'll keep an eye on the little bugger. He's a pretty tough dude, he's missing part of one limb :/ Anyway, I'll check on him and see if something gets wrapped around him or something. Thank you so much! :)

UPDATE: A friend reminded me I took a small video of when I first got Boss man. I checked it and yup, the wound is there, same place. This was 12 days ago. I guess I shouldn't worry since they don't heal like us, they molt, but it DOES make me feel a bit better that my crabbie isn't trying to eat Boss :x
