Moving with molting crabs

Post by prettycreb » Thu Apr 12, 2018 5:30 pm

I currently have 2 crabs that have been down for about 4 weeks un what I'm guessing is their molt cycle however I am moving in 30 days and am not sure what to do if they are still down when I have to move. I have a 20 gallon tank with roughly 75 pounds of sand which is going to be impossible for me to carry but I don't want to dig them up if possible since that's likely to kill them. Anyone got any tips on what to do?

With luck they will be done by then. 6-8 weeks for medium crabs is pretty normal.

If they aren't, you can carefully dig them up by hand. Have plastic containers with moss ready to go to separate any that are still down, and be prepared to keep them isolated for a few weeks just in case - you can even use the same containers if they are large enough. I have never lost a crab I had to dig up!
