Post by Cococrabgirl! » Wed Aug 14, 2019 2:20 pm

Hello everybody! I need some advice about fish tank prices. There is a 29 gallon fish tank on craigslist in good condition and comes with stand, I think maybe a lid ,and 30 pounds of aquarium gravel. The person is asking for 50 dollars for everything is that a good price?Image

A 29 with stand sounds good. They can keep the gravel. You don't need it unless you plan on crabby crafting with it, but I'd recommend staying away from painted gravel. I don't use it because with them being scavengers I'm afraid they would pick off the paint, eat it and get sick. The price on the tank and stand sounds good tho.

Thank you! And the gravel isn't painted gravel. I think I might use it for crafts or for drainage for our outdoor potted plants. Thank you again!

We have used gravel and silicone to make climbing walls inside tanks and other climbing things.

$50 isn't a bad price for both. If Petco is having the $1 a gallon you are looking at $30 with tax. Their cheap stands are around $35-40. Add another $20 for a glass lid. You are up to around $80 new.

I would show up to look at it and offer $35-40. If they won't budge you can go up to full price. Usually people won't make deals over the phone or through emails. From trying to sell dirt bikes on Craig's list everyone wants it, they sets up meeting times then never show up. If you are there with cash in hand it's tough not to take it. The add has been up for 15 days so no one is jumping on it.

I just found a 29 gallon fish tank for 25 dollars! I didn't want to spend 50 dollars so this is great! Thank you so much again for the help!

For where I'm at in Ohio, my rule for used tanks in good to great condition is $1 per gallon with lid. $2 per gallon with stand, lid and lights. If it's near mint and holds water maybe up to $2.50 but then you start getting in new tank kit prices so it tends to be a wash.
