Backgrounds and heaters
Hey guys! sorry for the abundance of questions lately, but I've been rly into the crabbies recently. Anywho, I am thinking about upgrading from my tiny 20 long at max capacity to a forty-gallon breeder or larger. I would prefer bigger, but my budget doesn't agree I want to get a fancy background for the tank, but I'm worried sticking a heater to it would be a fire hazard. I was just wondering how you guys do that! I feel like a heater on the side wouldn't provide enough heat, and like I said, I dunno if I could stick a heater on top of a background. Am I just seriously missing something?
thanks in advance.

Re: Backgrounds and heaters
I’ve done the paper/film aquarium backgrounds okay but anything thicker definitely wouldn’t work well with a heat mat.

Re: Backgrounds and heaters
We add 3d backgrounds to the inside of our tanks using egg crate and crafting mesh. We never had any issue with the heaters since the heat can escape through the holes.

Re: Backgrounds and heaters
I've used fabric and cork bark and had no problems with heating with either. Every situation is going to be different, but with a UTH that is safe to insulate (Ultratherm or Flukers) and a quality thermostat there's a good chance for even heating, and less risk.

Would putting boxwood (Fake grass mats) be safe?

Probably, though I don’t know how they’ll affect heat distribution.

So glad I saw this bc I was worried about my Boxwood background!
I have 5 PPs in a 40 gallon breeder!
