My New Rug & Cav**specie ID

Post by Mokulele_Hawai'i » Sat Jul 30, 2005 6:44 am

I also got one shy Ruggie ( I bought it only because of the small Mother-of-Pearl, Trochus niloticus shell ) .

… and a colorful Cav. Look … Iriomote, my C.purpureus, seemed to be curious about his new friend in the tank.

This new Cav (probably a male one) – I named it “Rangiroa” – is little bit feral and difficult to handle; I’ve been pinched once and it refused to release for more than 3 minutes ! The grip of the legs was also quite strong.

Aww, cute little ruggie curled up into that trochus shell... I didn't know they could actually live in one LOL. They are such oddly shaped... Must be interesting to see a cone walking around the crabitat:D. I hope he changes into something more comfortable soon.

Mahalo nui ... terima kasih.
Is it now being illegal to catch Coenobita perlatus in Australia ?

Yeah ... I also wonder why that Ruggie chooses Trochus / topshell that other kinds of shell; it's very unusual a land hermie wears that outfit.
