Rug with eye crust (pic)

Post by Guest » Mon Aug 15, 2005 5:13 pm

ok I noticed after I got my rug (1 week ago) that his eyes looked
"scraped". He is one of my favorite crabs(and that is something to say).
Should I be concerned? I mean he moves around GREAT and he can find the food an water bowl just fine but i wonder if he is ok...Now that my computer is fixed I have a good pic:

I don't know what you mean by "scraped". Rugs sometimes have a disorder we call "eye crust" that the other species don't get, which looks like a yellow fungus-like crust along their eyestalks. Does this sound like your rug?

my one rug has something not on the stalk but right next to the black on the eye...kinda like a scab (but its not I am sure) maybe the same thing you all are talking about?

That "crust" usually goes away after a molt or two, other ruggie owners say.

As you seem to have already noticed, they are not bothered by eye crust. It is not a health risk and will go away.
