Ok I know not to light any near the tank. But what about at the opposite end of the house ?? There is usually a fan on at all times.

Is it the actual candle burning, or the blow out smoke?

I would think that as long as it's not right next to the tank it should be fine.

My mom lights candles in the kitchen, which is where that tank is located..and the crabs down there havent had problems yet, and I have had half of them for two years. (That tank does better with no deaths than the one that I see the most, in bfs apartment that have never had a candle lit in it)

If you use a candle snuffer there is less smoke from when its put out, since it depletes the oxygen, the candle wick doesnt keep burning like it would if you just blow it out. ;)

Although, I have learned/heard that some candles have lead/metals in their wicks, and these candles do emit a metal into the air when you burn them. ick. I had a could that did that...they emit this black smoke while they are burning.

You can also get a candle warmer instead of burning them. I make candles, but do not like to burn them. I just scoop some of the wax out and put it on the burner (5 dollars at Walmart).
