I'm house sitting for a family that I've known for a very long time. For the past couple of years they've gone to the beach and have gotten hermit crabs one for each of their two girls. This summer Myra asked me how long my hermit crabs have lived. I told her that I've had my first for over 8 months and I know other people on this site and off who have theirs for years. She got a really funny look on her face and said "the guy at the shop said they's only live a couple of months). I had a jar of Gardner's hermit food I haven't used in a long time so I gave that to her to use instead of another food that had the evil perservatives in it. Well, this week I'm at the house and watching their 2 dogs, leopard gecko, and 2 hermits. Now 1 hermit, because he was already dead when I got there today (my first day there). They are housed in this wire cage, have colored rocks as substrate, a sponge, a food/water dish, regular tap water, and no extra shells. Here's a pic of the "tat"
While letting the dogs out through the garage I saw an empty KK (not great but tons better than that other thing). So I brought the Rainbow (the hc) and the KK to my house and set it up with some extra stuff I have lying around. Here's a couple pics of Rainbow in his new home.
.
Ok, now that I've gone on long enough. Another house sitter is taking over on wed (i'm going on my vacay). Should I call Myra and tell her that Lime (the other hc) has passed away and then tell her what I did with Rainbow? Should I just leave a note? I'm going to leave a caresheet on the counter and a water bottle of dechlor water. I just don't know how to approach Myra. I just couldn't stay at the house with little Rainbow in that awful cage.
Any pointers? (sorry its so long...)

I think I would call her. Maybe not right now, but definitely when they get back. Just tell her what you did and why and see how she reacts to it.
Rainbow must feel so much more comfortable in the KK now, it's great that you got him out of that awful wire cage.
