Caning your children is very much illegal in America...at least I am pretty sure it is. Different states have different laws. Even if it were legal, ugh...why in the world would you strike someone with a stick???!Crabbzymagnus wrote:Update:The teacher advised me not to take this to the authorities,my classmate has been through canning from his parents which is legal, matter of fact even I have been through canning. Is canning illegal in America? My teacher gave him a box to catch some new pet snails which I find kinda strange.

Hermit horror
There are many types of canes found at cheap prices, there is the whip....(The worst),there is the plain rod,i have only been hit on my hands with the plain rod,by my parents. In school if you break any rules more then once, there will be canning,if your lucky its done in the principal's office if not,its in the hall for all the other students to witness, the caner stretches his arms, dips the cane on hot water and the person will be smacked. It's completely legal here.....

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and his pets. You did a good thing by trying to help by educating him on proper care. I really do hope your friend doesn't collect any more pets though - if for no other reason than the chance his parents may use them as punishment again.

I agree. Growing up here it was allowed for teachers to paddle students (on the bottom) when I was in elementary school. Every teacher had one in their classroom. Not caning, I know - but still hitting someone with a "stick". I'm glad it's no longer allowed.soilentgringa wrote:Even if it were legal, ugh...why in the world would you strike someone with a stick???!

Re: Hermit horror
I got paddled when I was in 8th grade...the principal never called my parents and honestly I was afraid of getting worse at home! I skipped a class and got swats...it was pretty bad, I was sore for days. I am so sorry that your friend is going through this and I know every culture is different in what they view as abuse vs. "Tough love" or discipline even, but what you described was horrific. Please let your friend know that we are all thinking of them.CallaLily wrote:I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and his pets. You should still report the animal abuse.
Killing an animal is unacceptable.
His parents need punished for their actions.

I understand where you're coming from, but they are not in America. If caning is legal and an acceptable form of discipline for children, just imagine what could happen to this young person if his parents were reported. Unfortunately in this situation, all crabbyzmagnus can do is be there for their friend the best they can and offer moral support.StarWarsHermitCrab wrote:You should still report the animal abuse.

Re: Hermit horror
Very well, I will just let it go.
I'm not happy about this, and I wish something could have been
done about this.
I will leave this thread now because I don't want to think about
this anymore.
