Crab de-stress questions
Crab de-stress questions
Two days ago I got two new crabs. It's been 3 years since I've had new crabs. Do they always dig down to destress? One of mine is active eating and drinking and dug a little but never buried itself. And the other has been climbing and changing hiding spots. Is this normal behavior? They don't look they really need to molt and are pretty skittish but that is typical of e's.
2 Purple Pinchers and 2 Ecuadorians in a 20g long.

Re: Crab de-stress questions
Every crab is different. I have a few that never dug until they needed to molt and i have others that destressed for weeks before coming up just to go down to molt.
Sometimes they stock up on food and water then dig down to destress, molt or both.

I wouldn't worry! Its probably a good sign if they feel comfortable enough right from the get-go to stay above ground! Good luck with your new babies!!

Just offer lots of special foods like scrambled eggs and other smelly goodies. If he is stressed, food temptations is a good way to get them to settle in. If it doesn't work, he may just need to molt or veg for a while.
